Financial Results of Foreign Business in Russia in 2023
Leave Russia published last October the article “What Are the Financial Results of Foreign Business in Russia in 2023, and Have Exit Rates Slowed Down?”
They state the following: “In this policy brief, we update this information with data for 2023, and for the first time, we can observe the dynamics of foreign business revenue in Russia.”

According to the article this is what Mondelez stated in March 2022: “As a food company, we are reducing all non-essential operations in Russia while helping to ensure the continuity of food supply in these challenging times. We will also continue to support our colleagues in the market, who are facing great uncertainty. We will focus on basic offerings, halt all new capital investments, and suspend our advertising expenses. We acknowledge that this is a highly dynamic and disturbing situation, which we will continue to assess and adjust as necessary.”
Mondelez increased both revenue and profits in 2023. They still have three factories in Russia with around 3,000 employees.
From this we can draw the conclusion they have not scaled down their engagement in Russia.
Leave Russia lists the following activities you as a consumer can do if you find this disturbing:
- Write a post on your social networks;
- Contact the companies via social media, contact forms on company websites or by making phone calls and tell them how you feel about what is happening. You may find the contact details of the companies on this website;
- Boycott the goods and services of the companies and tell your friends about it;
- Write an electronic petition calling on the company to leave Russia;
- Hold a street action near the company’s headquarters.
If this seems to be a lot of work, pick at least one item on the list. By writing a post on your social network this can affect at least one other person to question the policies of a specific company.
Why should companies leave Russia? By leaving, Russia will loose tax revenue, access to foreign technologies, goods and capital. This is also the wish of the Ukrainian people.
Why do companies not leave Russia? It will result in financial losses.
Will this not affect the Russian people? Yes, it will. The earlier the economy grinds to a halt, the shorter the people will suffer. Ukraine has to be liberated before discussions on how to rebuild both countries can take place.
At the moment there is no interest from the Russian elite to end this meaningless “special military operation”.
I’ve looked in to Mondelez earlier in this article: https://www.grymkoll.se/posts/2025-01-12-leave-russia/
